One area that demands urgent government attention in the struggle to achieve food security and economic stability in Nigeria is putting in place efficient marketing and distribution system for staple food crop in Nigeria, not as food but also as an important crop with regards to traditional rites. Current strides in technological achievement have led to increase in the crop our put. Unfortunately the crop has the problem of rapid deterioration if not properly handled or promptly sold; its production, handling and consumption are surrounded by various traditional beliefs relating to gender issues. With focus on gender performance in marketing of yam, this addresses the issues and proffers solutions to that challenge of women empowerment and agricultural transformation in Nigeria in this millennium.
