The employment of unorthodox method in the procurement of construction contract in Bauchi State and indeed in Nigeria leaves much to be desired and had effectively militated against the delivery quality construction projects. This work is aimed at proffering ways of meeting with the challenges of the unorthodox practices inherent in the process aforementioned. As assessment of the various procurement system of construction contact is made while variable factors which hampers an effective procurement of such contract is identified.
In the work, questionnaires were administered on some professionals in the construction industry and the analysis of responses received was by a standard deviation using the Kendal’s coefficient (t) of 0.006 and Chi-square (X^2) of 6.14.
It is the finding of the work that in order to mitigate or curb the incessant unprofessional practices involved in the procurement of construction contract. It is imperative that contracts within the completion range of above 12 months should be by a competitive or selective tender while those below 12 months should be executed by direct labour by professionals in the organization or establishment. However, an internal consultant must be engaged for the former while government policy on construction matters should be positively revisited, making it mandatory for all tiers of government to adhere to.
